Global Communication Center Seminar Series

Title: Extensive Reading at JAIST
Place: J-BEANS Room
Date: June 17, Friday
Time: 12:40 – 13:20

As of 2016, the JAIST library has about 800 English graded readers. Graded readers have been leveled so that lower level graded readers have more common (frequent) English vocabulary while subsequent levels have less common (infrequent) English vocabulary. This presentation will give a short overview of the rationale supporting an extensive reading program using graded readers. Specifically, graded readers, learning of new vocabulary, and the leveling systems of different publishers will be discussed. In conclusion, the presentation will demonstrate how Moodle@JAIST is utilized to manage graded readers, book quizzes, and track student progress.
